Coming soon to a neighborhood near you… or is it coming to your neighborhood? A $5 million hacking surveillance van called SpearHead 360 is designed to trick nearby cellphones into connecting to it, rather than to legitimate cellphone towers.
After creating connections with phones, the van’s electronics can inject those phones with malware to gain full access to voice conversations and data.
This new development promises to help governments, corporations, and criminals ensure that no one can escape their scrutiny. After all, the new van can capture voice and data traffic from devices that are as far away as 500 meters. (1,640 feet or almost one-third of a mile) away.
Needless to say, analysts expect that governments will make full use of the SpearHead 360. Already, use of the FBI’s Stingray, KingFish, and DRTbox fake cell phone tires has become almost ubiquitous.
Quick Tip: NEVER expect to have privacy while using mobile phones (including smartphones). Also, consider using VPN apps to secure your mobile data. Meanwhile apps such as Signal may help to harden your voice conversations
