When you want to associate an application with a particular file type, and the application is not listed in the Linux Mint file manager dialog box, you have to choose the “Other Application” option. Unfortunately, this action requires you to provide the complete path to that application. What is it?
Recently, I had a client who experienced this while trying to associate torrent files with Deluge. Here’s how we found the correct path:
- Open Terminal.
- Enter the following at the prompt: command -v deluge (if you are looking for the path to a different application, enter its name in the format “command -v [application name].
- Press Enter
- The system will now return the path to your application. In this case, the response was the following: /usr/bin/deluge. Just browse to that location using the provided interface and you will now have torrent files associated with Deluge.
